Another great addition to your bug out kit is the bright hunter orange tape. Marks trials real easy, better than breadcrumbs!

Survival Tools - K, one of the first things I want to add which is super important is learn how to use a compass (properly) and learn how to read a selection of maps with varying terrain, of the area in which you would potentially be in. In modern society many have turned to GPS or other navigating systems, they can and do fail. A compass and map don't.

Now regarding equipment, that depends on the situation. But a basic rule of thumb, you should carry on you - a compass, map of the area (detailed) a knife, a lighter or ferro rod to be able to start a fire, a small axe or hatchet, water if a planned trip, food, spare socks, flashlight or good headlight and paracord.

That list would grow considerably if a longer outing was planned. But, in the event of getting lost, which happens, then you should have at least the compass/map, knife, lighter, water, flashlight and paracord when you plan a basic trip.
